If you’re a regular user of Outlook.com and you prefer to work from your online inbox, the Skype plugin lets you make video and voice calls right from your inbox. You don’t even have to open up a different app or close your existing window.

  • Head to the Skype website. From there, click on Downloads.
  • Scroll down to the bottom and in the More Skype apps section at the bottom of the page, click on the Skype for Outlook.com option.
  • In the window that pops up, click on Get the Outlook plugin. Once the program finishes downloading, open it up to install it. Just follow the prompts in order to install the plugin to your computer.
  • Head to Outlook.com. The first time you visit Outlook.com after installing the Skype plugin, you may get a warning asking if you want to use the plugin. Confirm that you do, and then the plugin will load.
  • Now, pay attention to the little speech bubble at the top of your screen. This is how you can access the Skype plugin. Just click on it, and a Skype window will open in your Outlook.com interface. From here you have all the tools you normally have in Skype.
  • You can access your contacts, add a contact, dial a call directly, or click on an address book contact, and then click on Connect on Skype in order to create a Skype connection. For existing connections, you can click on the video or voice call icons to start a conversation, or type a text message down at the bottom. It’s everything you expect from Skype, but you never have to leave your webmail account to use it.
