Slack may feel more ephemeral than email, but don’t be fooled by its rapid pace, your messages are still stored and searchable. In fact Slack’s searching abilities are core to it’s functionality.

Boasting a plethora of modifiers you never have to worry about not being able to narrow your search. You can find the search bar in the top right corner of any Slack channel and simply hit the plus sign when clicked into the search bar to bring up the search modifiers.

In addition to the modifiers, you can also add quotation marks around a search terms to search for only that specific phrase or add an asterisk after a partial word to conduct a wildcard search. In fact, you don’t necessarily have to use the search bar to conduct a search. If you are just interested in searching a specific channel you can type /s before a term in the message composition window to launch a search from there.
