As we’ve discussed in previous posts, the exponential growth of SaaS has prompted IT teams around the world to look for new opportunities to increase automation and reduce operating costs. The monotony of provisioning new users or granting access across a growing SaaS portfolio can take a toll on even the most experienced IT admins, which has created an undeniable groundswell around the concept of zero touch IT.

Historically, users submit a ticket request when they need specific app permissions or a license upgrade. Let’s take a look at how you can handle these requests more efficiently by integrating Slack and Zapier with BetterCloud.

Current challenges

Exactly what happens after an end user submits a ticket to IT? After IT receives the request, it might sit in a queue for an undefined amount of time before it is processed. Then, it’s subject to any approval processes associated with the request—which means the end user needs to wait for another undefined period for that request to be approved.

After the request has been approved, the end user needs to wait again for IT to manually grant access from the application console. This entirely manual process could take a few hours to complete, assuming that the ticket doesn’t get lost in the backlog. And even when it “only” takes IT a few hours to complete, those are still precious minutes that the end user is left without the application that they need to do their job.

The solution

Achieving end-to-end automation across an organization’s application management process can sound like a daunting task. Integrating BetterCloud with communication tools like Slack and Zapier make it significant easier.

Slack is a great vehicle for users to submit simple requests. In the example below, we’ll explore how BetterCloud can leverage Slack Workflows and Zapier Webhooks to enable a seamless end-user experience.

In comparison to the manual process of submitting an application request, moving this request process to Slack is pretty straightforward. After a user joins a designated Slack channel for application requests, they can submit a form for the request in that channel. From there, Zapier and BetterCloud automate the remainder of the provisioning process.
