SaaS Updates Summary: March 13–March 17

This past week, Microsoft announced they’re rolling out an extended profile card experience across Office 365. The new Office 365 profile card leverages machine learning to identify information relevant to you and the new organization view shows a complete picture of the highlighted user’s position in the company, including their direct reports and co-workers. Additionally, the new profile card will be integrated everywhere you see a person’s name.
Microsoft Teams is here! Teams is “a digital workspace built on four core promises: chat for today’s teams, a hub for teamwork, customization options, and security teams trust,” according to Microsoft. It;s a Slack competitor. Last week, it was made generally available in 181 markets and in 19 languages. Microsoft has also introduced 100+ new features to address top customer requests.
After Google Next, Google had a few announcements. First, you must upgrade your Google Drive plug-in for Microsoft Office (to version 1.7.17.0) before April 20, 2017. If not, you won’t be able to sign in to older versions of the plug-in. Second, now you can send and request money in your Gmail app on Android, and you can even exchange money with people even if they don’t have a Gmail address. Third, Google is improving video streaming in for videos attached in Gmail. “Previously, in order to view a video attachment in Gmail, you would have to download it to your computer and open it with a media player. Starting today, when opening an email with video attachments, you will see a thumbnail of the video and have the ability to stream it, right from inside Gmail.”
Finally, Asana announced that its integration with Microsoft Teams is now available. Teams can now add their Asana projects to their group chats.
