Use Yammer Instead of Newsfeeds in SharePoint for Your O365 Tenant

Admins, if you’ve activated Yammer for your Office 365 tenant, did you know you can also use Yammer in place of the SharePoint Newsfeed?

Depending on the settings in your tenant, Newsfeeds may be enabled or disabled — it’s currently turned off by default, but you can check the SharePoint admin center to determine which is in use for your tenant. This is also where you’ll go to enable Yammer. Follow these steps:

  1. From the admin center, select SharePoint under Admin in the left-hand panel.
  2. Select settings.
  3. Scroll to Enterprise Social Collaboration. You’ll be able to choose Use Yammer.com service.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and click OK.

If you’ve switched away from the SharePoint Newsfeed, note that the data won’t be deleted, but links to follow people, documents, and tags will be removed. To get those features back, you’ll need to revert to using SharePoint Newsfeeds, which you can do by following the directions above and choosing Use SharePoint Newsfeed in step #3.
