Skype for Business newbies need not fear; many of the processes in this tool are intuitive and will be especially familiar to longtime Lync users. For example, if you regularly scheduled Lync meetings via your Outlook calendar, your muscle memory will probably take over, allowing you to schedule a new Skype for Business meeting without any trouble.

For those of us who need a demonstration or reminder, the video above will show how to create a Skype for Business meeting using both Outlook 2013 and the Outlook Web App.

To schedule a Skype meeting using Outlook 2013/2016:

  1. From your calendar, click on the New Skype Meeting icon in the Home tab (as seen in the image below), OR create the meeting first and select Skype Meeting. The second method allows you to configure Meeting Options and is more appropriate for meetings with multiple requirements.
  2. Fill out the meeting agenda, attendees, etc. as you normally would. Don’t change any of the Skype meeting information.
  3. Click Send.

To schedule a Skype meeting using the Outlook Web App:

  1. From the calendar, click the plus sign or New to create a meeting.
  2. Select the Online meeting button in the middle of the meeting window.
  3. Fill in the meeting agenda, attendees, etc. as you normally would. Don’t change any of the online meeting information.
  4. Click Send.

If you don’t see the Online meeting link, you may not have a Skype for Business license as part of your Office 365 subscription, or you may be using an unsupported browser.
