How to Make an Audio Call in Slack

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many Slack messages is a single audio call worth? I find that things tend to get done a lot quicker when you can have a real conversation with someone rather than a stream of messages. There is a clarity that just isn’t there in text.

Slack must agree, which is why they have the audio calling feature built right into their messaging platform for when you really need to talk to someone right now. Once setup, you can initiate an audio call straight from a Slack message in a channel or a direct message.

1. Click the crop down menu next to your Slack team name
2. Select “Team Settings”
3. In the “Settings” tab scroll down to where it says “Calls”
4. Click “Expand”
5. Check the box next to “Enable Calls”
6. Click “Save Settings”
7. Use the phone icon at the top of your Slack screen to launch a call
