Boo! Halloween is right around the corner. Do you have your costume yet? Try Frightgeist, a Google Trends experiment that pulls from the top costume searches to tell you which costumes are trending.
- Head to https://frightgeist.withgoogle.com/.
- You can see a list of the trending costumes, either nationally or locally. (It currently pulls from the top 500 costume searches in the United States only.)
- You can also use the Costume Wizard and adjust the sliders to pick your desired “spookiness” level, “uniqueness” level, and more. The Wizard will spit back a suggested costume based on your input.

- You can also click on the real-time, interactive Costume Map where you can hover over a city and see what the the top costume is there. (Pikachu is trending in Mankato, MN.)
- It also works in reverse. If you type in a costume, you can see where it’s trending. (Lots of Harry Potters in Fairbanks, Alaska.)
