The SaaS world saw lots of updates this past week. Google rolled out improvements to Google Drive, Gmail, and Inbox by Gmail. It introduced a new feature in the Google Apps Toolbox for admins, as well as better tables and charts in the Docs, Sheets, and Slides Android apps. Microsoft introduced updates for OneNote and Yammer, and also released the Service Assurance Dashboard as part of the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center. Asana announced new password and security features for admins.

Improvements to PDF, Microsoft Office, image file previewing in Google Drive on web – The Google Drive preview feature is a way to quickly preview files you’d typically open in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, or photo editors. Available in Gmail, Inbox, and Google Drive, previewing a file is a useful and fast experience and works across a wide range of files. Starting this week, Google is rolling out some improvements to the preview feature to make it simpler and easier to use.

Automate OneNote staff notebook creation and more with new API – The OneNote team is excited to announce the launch of the new OneNote Staff Notebook API for Office 365! Since the launch of OneNote Staff Notebooks last year, the only way to create staff notebooks was through the OneNote Staff Notebook app. Thanks to all the feedback they’ve received from school leaders, teachers and IT admins, they’ve made it possible to now create OneNote staff notebooks programmatically as well. What this means is that IT admins, Microsoft Education partners and others can automate the creation and updates of OneNote staff notebooks across a school or district.

Office 365 Service Assurance—gaining your trust with transparency – The Office 365 team wants to ensure that you have access to the information that is relevant for you to perform a risk assessment on Office 365 services—on demand. Access to this information should be seamless. To achieve these goals, they have released the Service Assurance Dashboard as part of the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center, which provides you immediate access to audit reports and more.

Inbox by Gmail: Evolving the inbox to save you time – The team behind Inbox has made its mission to help you organize your email and save you time. Starting today, you’ll discover more integrations that make it easier to see what’s happening and then act with organized Trello and GitHub project updates and Google Alerts previews. You’ll also see updates based on your feedback, including Google Drive integration.

Making email safer with new security warnings in Gmail – Starting this week, Google is introducing two new security warnings in Gmail to help you keep your email safer.

A new log analyzer for Google Drive for Mac/PC – Google Drive for Mac/PC — the app that syncs your computer with Google Drive — is an easy way to make sure your files are safe and accessible from anywhere. Google is releasing a new feature in the Google Apps Toolbox that makes troubleshooting Google Drive for Mac/PC easier and faster for Google Apps admins.

New for Admins: Stronger password and security controls – Asana is excited to announce new features created to help Admins better manage their company’s Asana accounts. Organization Administrators now have the ability to enforce stronger password requirements for members and can force a company-wide password reset to ensure security.

Better tables and charts in the Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides Android apps – The latest releases of the Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps for Android make it easy to create tables and improve the look of charts on your mobile phone or tablet.

Yammer adds mobile application management capabilities through Intune – The Yammer team is excited to announce an update to the Yammer apps for iOS and Android that allows IT administrators to protect their corporate data using mobile application management (MAM) controls in Microsoft Intune.
