There are a number of different ways that Google integrates the power of Gmail directly into Drive. One of our favorites is the ability to stay on top of any changes that occur to a Spreadsheet with notification rules.

Notification rules allow you to receive email notifications whenever a change occurs to a Google Spreadsheet that fits your predetermined criteria. For example, you could set up notification rules so that you receive an email whenever a form is submitted, a collaborator is added or a specific cell is edited.
