G Suite Export Groups

Google Groups allow you to create online and email-based groups. Organizations may have thousands of internal and external Google Groups and may want to export lists of Group members for internal records, adding members, or making changes to the member information.

Exporting Groups Lists in G Suite

  1. To export your Groups list into a .csv file:
  2. Sign-in to Google Groups
  3. Click My Groups > check the name of the group
  4. In the upper right corner, click Manage
  5. Near the top right corner of the page, click Export Members

Adding New Members to Groups in G suite

  1. To add new members to your groups:
  2. In the Manage window, on the left side menu, click on Invite Members
  3. Enter the email address you want to enter one by one, separated by a comma
  4. Click Send Invites

Alternatively, you can do the same through the Admin Console:

  1. Sign-in to the G Suite Admin Console
  2. Click on Groups
  3. Check the group you want to add members to.
  4. Click Manage users in <group name>
  5. Enter the names, usernames or email addresses of the users you want to add to the group, separated with commas.
  6. Optionally, set the role from Member to Owner.
  7. Click Add.

Editing Google Group Member Information

In the “Manage users” window in the Admin Console, you can remove members and change a group member’s role individually. This is not the best way if you are trying to make changes to a group with hundreds of members or if you want to make changes to multiple groups at the same time.

Third-party tools, like BetterCloud, provide a better way to export and manage Google Groups. BetterCloud makes it easy to modify group settings quickly and in bulk from an all-in-one console. With BetterCloud you can:

  • View full group details and any nested groups
  • Export Group lists straight to your Google Drive
  • View and edit group settings one-by-one, or in bulk using Action Engine
  • Add or remove group members and change owners (also in bulk)
